OPEN DATA BASE CONNECTIVITY

ResSched supports Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC). ODBC allows customers to use their own database managers and spreadsheets to generate reports using ResSched data. To access ResSched data, you must have the 32 bit ODBC driver for TopSpeed data files. The CD for the Corporate Edition of ResSched includes a single-user, read-only ODBC driver.

To install the ODBC driver on a workstation:

1. Place the ResSched CD in your CD drive and open the ODBC folder

2. Run the setup.exe file.

3. Click the Next button until you are asked if you want to configure the TopSpeed data source. Click Yes. The image below should appear with blank fields.

4. Enter your choice for name and description (the ones shown are suggested here). Use the File button to enter the full path of the resdata.tps file in your ResSched data folder, then click OK.

5. Click Finish.

To check whether the ODBC driver has been installed properly, from the Windows Start button go Start>Settings>Administrative Tools>Data Sources (ODBC)>User DSN>ResSched (if that's what you named it). Click Configure. You should see what you just entered above.

You are now ready to use ResSched data in other application.  Every application has its own way of accessing external data, so check your application's documentation, usually under accessing or using external or ODBC data sources.

If you need to use the ODBC driver on more than one workstation, you must purchase additional licences from Madrigal Soft Tools or, if you need four or more workstation licences, from SoftVelocity Corporation at 1 877-733-4555 (toll free) or 1 954-785-4555. If you order from SoftVelocity, make sure to use only the 32 bit read-only driver. Using the read/write driver puts you at great risk of making your data files unusable.

Customers are strongly advised to set the ODBC driver properties to Read-only to avoid any corruption of the ResSched database.
