How do I install the Corporate Edition?

Top  Previous  Next

The Corporate Edition comes in two versions:

local shared file version that accesses data the same way as the Standard Edition; and

wide area version that provides better performance and is suitable for accessing through wide area networks or the Internet.

For the local version, use the same installation procedures as the Standard Edition.

Wide Area Installation

The wide area version requires you to install server program files with your data files on your server and separate client programs on each workstation that uses ResSched.   The server component requires Windows 2000 or greater.

Server

Choose the 'Server Complete' setup type when you run the setup program to install both the server and client program files on your server or workstation that is acting as a server.  The default data folder on the server is C:\ClarionDataServer.  The setup program will install and start the Soft Velocity IP Data Driver as a Windows service.   The setup program sets an initial configuration for connection and access to ResSched data files.   The default port is 2339 using localhost as the server.  To change these settings see, Change Server Settings in the on line help file.  The sever data folder must have a copy of syslic3.tps which is either installed by the trial version setup program or with your existing installation of ResSched.  If you have a firewall on your server, you must set it to permit the client workstations to use the designated port.

Client

To install just the client program files on a workstation, choose the 'Workstation Only' setup type.  It will install the required files and create Shortcuts both in Programs and on the desktop.

For ease of administration, you could install the ResSched Client programs on a single machine on your local network (not the same thing as your data server) and just have shortcuts on each user's workstation pointing to the program files on the local server.  Use the 'Shortcuts only' to install the shortcuts on each workstation after you have installed the client programs on the local server.  If you wish to create the shortcuts manually on the workstations, you must at least have a shortcut with resschm.exe on the local server as the Target property.
